Montessori Methodology

At Waseca Montessori School, we are committed to providing an authentic Montessori curriculum. This world-changing methodology was created by Dr. Maria Montessori, one of Italy’s first female physicians. Dr. Montessori began her work with children in a medical capacity, observing how young children learned most efficiently. She then began to create her unique curriculum that prioritizes an individualized approach, independence in learning, hands-on activities, and interdisciplinary and multi-sensorial lessons.

In each of our classrooms, we aim to meet the needs of the child by allowing for movement and flexible seating, providing an orderly and language-rich environment, and encouraging healthy socialization within our multi-age classroom. Our staff embrace the freedom of choice for each child, and they provide encouragement to allow for intrinsic motivation to build in each and every student.

We seek to provide a learning environment that is beneficial to the child in every way. Children have what Dr. Montessori called an “absorbent mind,” and we are aware that they take in everything around them. For this reason, we seek to provide a place where each child can thrive and grow into their full, independent, and confident self.

Never help a child with a task at which he feels he can succeed.”
