Infant I: Sprouts
Our role as a Montessori guide is to create an environment that meets the needs of the child and stimulates them to explore. Therefore, you will not find high chairs in the environment for an adult’s convenience. The children who are ready to sit upright have specially designed chairs to stabilize them at the table with their friends where they will learn to drink from a cup and eat from their own plate or bowl. You will not see swings to placate babies. Babies are free to move as they are able on the floor and encouraged to work on their gross motor skills. Toys and sensorial objects are at their level to take from the shelf. A Montessori trained guide and an assistant meet the needs of seven children. A detailed report of your child’s day is available to parents at pickup. Once a child is walking, we will endeavor to move them into the Infant II class.
Infant II: Blossoms
Children enter the Infant II class around the age of one or when they are walking independently. They will join a community of 11, with a Montessori trained guide and an assistant. Children in Infant II will endeavor to learn to feed themselves independently and work independently, developing close connections with their guides and classmates. Independence leads directly to a sense of self-competency. As language skills are developing, we use sign language to help with the frustration that comes with learning to express oneself. When children are between 18 months and 24 months, we will move them to a Pre-Primary class.
