The children’s exploration is grounded and enhanced by our Nature Connection program. The primary and elementary classes enjoy regular outings in our Temperate Forest with mentors who encourage them to stretch the edge of their comfort level, to sharpen their senses, to learn bird language, and to practice respect for the plants and animals who live there. Hiding games teach us to be quiet and silent so that we can see more wild animals. We learn to walk intentionally like a fox and use our owl eyes for peripheral vision. Older children work on creating a mental map of the 40 acres where we wander between the different landmarks we have named and orient ourselves to the four directions. Storytelling and shared nature experiences are also a part of the experience.
